SAG-AFTRA reaches tentative deal with major studios – NBC 6 South Florida

SAG‑AFTRA Secures Early Deal With Key Studios

Screen Actors Guild‑American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG‑AFTRA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached a tentative contract on Saturday, preventing a repeat of the 2023 strike that halted film and television production for four months.

The agreement will replace the existing 2023 motion picture, scripted television, streaming, and new media contract. Details remain confidential until reviewed by the SAG‑AFTRA National Board.

The deal follows the Writers Guild of America securing a four‑year pact with the AMPTP, which included a $321 million contribution to the WGA’s health fund. The longer term was agreed to offset the cost of an additional year for writers.

SAG‑AFTRA members, numbering more than 160,000, will be protected by new provisions addressing health care, pensions and emerging artificial intelligence use in the industry. The board will assess the terms in the coming days before any public announcement.

If approved, the new contract should stabilize production schedules for films and television series across Hollywood, giving actors and crew the security enjoyed by other major unions in the past.
