Miami man receives bond after balcony death charge

A judge in Miami approved a $150,000 bond for Corey Hutterli, 37, on Thursday following a hearing related to the February 15 incident at the Akoya Condominium. Hutterli is charged with second‑degree murder, burglary with assault or battery, and possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. The case centers on the death of Justin Zelin, 35, who was thrown from the 25th‑floor balcony of the building at 6365 Collins Avenue on Mid‑Beach.

Lawyers for Hutterli argued that the state’s evidence was purely circumstantial. They highlighted a toxicology report indicating Zelin had fentanyl, cocaine, and ketamine in his system at the time of the incident, suggesting the drugs may have altered his state. Hutterli’s team questioned a detective during the proceedings to support this point.

Investigators recorded a 911 call in which Zelin demanded Hutterli leave his apartment before a struggle was heard. The call was used to establish the confrontation that led to Zelin’s fall.

Zelin’s father testified last week detailing their final conversation. The bond decision leaves Hutterli free pending further proceedings while the case remains open.
