Teen charged for false emergency call after losing game.
In the afternoon of Wednesday, a 13‑year‑old student from Deerfield Beach Middle School in Florida called 911 after losing a game of rock, paper, scissors. The call was made shortly after 12:30 p.m. and mentioned an intent to “shoot the school.”
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the school’s address on SE Sixth Avenue and placed the campus on lockdown while investigating the threat. The student was identified as the caller and was later arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Charges filed include unlawful use of a two‑way communication device, misuse of the 911 system, disruption of a school function, and a felony false‑report offense concerning a firearm threat.
A separate 12:48 p.m. call to the dispatcher alleged a threat against Cypress Bay High School in Weston. Investigators state that call appears unrelated to the Deerfield Beach incident.
Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony confirmed that every threat report is taken seriously and investigated thoroughly, with possible arrests following from such allegations.
