South Florida WWII Veteran Celebrated During 104th Birthday Tribute

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – On Monday, a ceremony was held to celebrate the 104th birthday of Harold Sotzsky, a World War II veteran in the U.S. Coast Guard. The event took place in Fort Lauderdale with family, friends, and community members in attendance.

Sotzsky was born in Washington, D.C., in 1922 as one of seven children. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942 and served until 1945, participating in the transport of troops and wounded civilians. Two days after returning home from the war, he married Doris, and the couple remained together for more than 50 years.

The birthday gathering was organized by Ryan Paton of Honor Flight South Florida in collaboration with United Way’s Mission United. Guests included representatives from the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders and former federal official Stanley C. Panther, who presented a special jersey to Sotzsky.

During the celebration, Sotzsky expressed gratitude for the support of veterans and the community. The event was televised by Local 10 news and praised for honoring an individual who has lived through significant historical periods.
