‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ cast on why it took 20 years for sequel – NBC 6 South Florida

Prada sequel actors explain two-decade delay before film release.

The long‑anticipated sequel to the 2006 film, “The Devil Wears Prada,” will hit theaters on May 1, 2026. The film reunites the original cast: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. They will reprise their roles as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton and Nigel Kipling in a story set two decades later in the changing world of fashion publishing.

According to a press tour interview held before the release, the new screenplay was written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also scripted the original movie. The plot centers on Andy’s return to the fictional magazine Runway, where she helps Miranda and Nigel confront the digital transformation of journalism, including the rise of artificial intelligence and online media.

The cast discussed their personal experiences during a conversation with Jenna Bush Hager that aired April 30 on TODAY. They described how the characters have evolved over time, noting that Andy remains optimistic while Nigel grows more pragmatic, and Emily retains her sharp wit.

Both Streep and Hathaway emphasized that the sequel provides “new reasons” for the story beyond nostalgia, with McKenna adding fresh themes about career and technology. The film is scheduled for wide release on May 1, 2026, and will be available in cinemas worldwide.
