Woman airlifted to hospital after being attacked by dog in Hialeah; victim’s son arrested

Man arrested after son defeats dog attack, woman hospitalized in Hialeah.

A 58‑year‑old woman was attacked by a dog late Thursday night in the 1100 block of West 70th Place in Hialeah, Florida. Police responded to reports of a dog attack and found the victim, Ana Leyva, with multiple bites to her arms and legs.

Leyva was air‑lifted by Hialeah Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. Hospital officials confirmed she was receiving urgent medical care at the time of the report.

Investigators identified the attacking dog and noted that several other dogs on the property were in poor health, showing signs of malnourishment and unsanitary conditions. Miami‑Dade Animal Services subsequently removed ten dogs from the residence during the investigation.

The dog’s owner, Jairon Alvarez‑Leyva, a 22‑year‑old son of Leyva, was taken into custody on charges of animal cruelty and resisting arrest without violence. Authorities indicated the charges are pending and the case remains under active investigation.

Miami‑Dade Police Department has released statements confirming the facts of the incident. Police are continuing to assess the property and related animal conditions as part of the ongoing inquiry.
