Uber driver shot, passenger possibly grazed in Miami, cops say

Miami police report Uber driver shot; passenger may have been grazed.

In Miami, an Uber driver was shot while transporting a passenger in the Buena Vista West area on Friday night, around 10 p.m. A ShotSpotter system recorded the incident near Northwest Second Avenue and 38th Street. The driver was wounded in the shoulder but proceeded north and called for assistance near Northwest Fifth Avenue and 46th Street.

Emergency responders transported both the driver and the passenger to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Police report that the passenger may have sustained a graze wound. The investigation has not identified a suspect or motive.

While attending the shooting, a Miami police sergeant was involved in a separate traffic collision when another vehicle ran a stop sign. The sergeant’s patrol car rolled over; he was not seriously injured and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information to call 305‑471‑8477. The case remains under investigation.
