Tom Holland challenges Musk on the “Odyssey” film project
Historian Tom Holland, a British scholar with an online following of more than 372,000, publicly supported Christopher Nolan’s 2026 film adaptation of Homer’s epic “The Odyssey.” The film, released in U.S. theaters on July 17, features actor Tom Holland as the son Telemachus and follows Odysseus’s return to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
Holland’s comments were made after the movie attracted criticism from some conservatives over casting choices, including Lupita Nyong o as Helen of Troy and Elliot Page as a Trojan warrior. The film has also been accused of historical inaccuracies and of using American accents for the ancient characters.
Elon Musk expressed opposition to the movie in a social‑media post, specifically targeting Holland for his praise. Holland responded on the platform, reaffirming his view that the film successfully balances modern cinematic elements with ancient myth.
A spokesperson for Holland did not reply to a request for comment. The film’s release is scheduled for July 17, and it remains available in theaters nationwide.
