Britney Spears admits reckless driving in DUI lawsuit
Britney Spears, 44, pleaded guilty to reckless driving on a misdemeanor DUI charge on Thursday. The arrest occurred on March 4 in Westlake Village, California, near the Los Angeles–Ventura county line, after California Highway Patrol officers stopped a BMW 430i for erratic driving. Spears was the sole occupant of the vehicle when she was taken into custody and later released.
A hearing in Ventura County Superior Court on Monday found the case at the wet‑reckless level, a California statute that allows a defendant with no prior DUI history and no crash or injury to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol. The court imposed a 12‑month probation period, credit for time already spent in custody, a requirement to complete a DUI class, and payment of state‑required fines and fees.
Spears’ representative stated that she would comply with legal requirements and that she had voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility. The representative emphasized a desire for Spears to receive necessary support.
Spears has two children with her former husband, Kevin Federline. The incident follows her 2023 memoir release and the conclusion of her five‑year conservatorship, after which she regained control over her personal and financial affairs.
