Lin‑Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis Launch New Musical on Broadway
Lin‑Manuel Miranda and actress Eisa Davis have announced plans to adapt their 2024 concept album “Warriors” into a Broadway musical.
The project is based on a 1965 novel that was later made into a 1979 cult film. It follows a street gang called the Warriors as they travel from the Bronx to Coney Island while confronting rival gangs and police forces.
Production plans call for previews in March and an opening in April at New York’s Lunt‑Fontanne Theatre. Jenny Koons will direct the show, and the book will be written by Miranda and Davis. No lead or ensemble casting has been released at this time.
Miranda and Davis released the album in 2024, keeping the core narrative but redesigning the Warriors as an all‑female crew. The recording features a mix of salsa, ska, agro‑rock, boy‑band, pop, old‑school rap and K‑pop, with tracks in English, Spanish and Korean.
The album’s roster includes Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Marc Anthony, Colman Domingo, Cam’ron, Shenseea and Joshua Henry. Song highlights include the R&B‑inflected “We Got You” and the feminist anthem “Quiet Girls.”
