Court orders mental assessment for woman charged with attempted murder of Rihanna
A Los Angeles judge halted prosecution of Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35‑year‑old Orlando resident, on Tuesday and referred the case to a mental health court. The court will evaluate whether Ortiz is competent to proceed to trial. Ortiz faces ten felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling after allegedly firing an AR‑15‑style rifle at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Beverly Hills property on March 8. No injuries were reported.
The case was moved to a Hollywood mental‑health court following a request by Ortiz’s defense attorney, who expressed doubts about her mental competence. Ortiz was scheduled for a June 2 appearance in the same court where a stalking case was recently declared incompetent. Prosecutors declined to comment on the decision.
If found incompetent, Ortiz could be held in a state mental‑health facility until she is capable of standing trial. She remains in custody under a bail bond of nearly $2 million.
