Man allegedly assaults 11‑year‑old niece during heated argument in Miami.
A 32‑year‑old man from Gladeview, Miami‑Dade County, was arrested Tuesday on a child‑abuse charge after an alleged assault of his 11‑year‑old niece. Police received a call from the niece, who was crying and in pain at her home. Responding officers and Miami Fire Rescue evaluated the girl and noted a bump on the back of her head.
Investigators say the incident began over a dispute involving a shoe and a scooter, and that a cousin informed the suspect, who then confronted the child. The victim reported that the suspect grabbed her chest, pulled her face, and struck her head against a wall multiple times. The suspect denied striking the victim.
The suspect was read his Miranda rights and spoke with investigators, but his statement was not released. The niece was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s pediatric unit for further assessment. Police said they were reviewing possible surveillance footage.
The suspect is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The Miami Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and the Florida Department of Children and Families were notified and are conducting the investigation.
