Red Lobster’s Longest‑Serving Location Shuts Down After 56 Years

The Tallahassee, Florida, Red Lobster restaurant will close permanently on May 24. The venue, the chain’s oldest continuously operating location, opened in 1970 and has been a community landmark for more than six decades. Company officials said the closure follows a broader review of restaurant performance and lease terms as part of the brand’s ongoing restructuring. Red Lobster had filed for bankruptcy in May 2024, closed several U.S. locations, and emerged from court‑approved proceedings in September with a revised menu and promotional strategies.

The Tallahassee shop employed more than 160 guests a day during its peak, with longtime grillmaster Horace Williams serving up around 100–150 meals daily, a testament to the site’s long‑standing operational scale. The chain’s decision to shut the Tallahassee outlet is described as a normal business adjustment influenced by local conditions, rather than part of a national closure wave.

Red Lobster’s corporate leadership, represented by CEO Damola Adamolekun, has highlighted the need to streamline assets and noted that each location’s fate is evaluated on its own merits. The final closing of the Tallahassee restaurant marks the end of an era for a historic member of the Red Lobster franchise.
