Miami Executive Airport confronts large grass blaze, officials respond swiftly.
A grass fire ignited on Sunday afternoon in the pinelands of southwest Miami‑Dade County near Southwest 137th Avenue and 120th Street, close to the Miami Executive Airport. The blaze started at approximately 2:45 p.m. and spread to about ten acres.
Miami‑Dade Fire Rescue crews responded promptly and deployed additional personnel to contain the flames. The department reported no injuries among residents or responders.
The fire’s rapid spread was attributed to strong eastern winds and high temperatures. Firefighters worked to protect nearby properties, focusing on preserving exposures and preventing the fire from reaching residential areas.
During the incident, authorities evacuated Camp Matecumbe within Boystown Pineland County Park and temporarily closed a section of Southwest 120th Street. Residents were advised to remain inside, keep doors and windows shut, and follow shelter‑in‑place instructions until the threat passed.
After the flames were brought under control, the fire was fully extinguished later that day. No further damage or casualties were reported.
