Jack Schlossberg comments on father’s depiction in “Love Story”
Jack Schlossberg, 33, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, addressed the FX streaming series “Love Story” during an interview with Katie Couric. The show dramatizes the romance and fatal 1996 plane crash involving his uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Carolyn Bessette‑Kennedy. Schlossberg said he had no issue with viewers’ interest in the story but criticized the series for portraying his family as mere celebrities rather than public servants.
Schlossberg, who is currently campaigning for a U.S. House seat, noted that the series embellishes the couple’s romance while minimizing their political legacy. He added that his parents, Caroline Kennedy and Ed Schlossberg, were cast by Grace Gummer and Ben Shenkman, and he found the portrayals unflattering.
The series, which premiered on February 12, became Hulu’s most‑watched limited series, with over 25 million viewing hours reported for its first five episodes. It sparked widespread discussion on social media and prompted fans to recreate the fashion of Kennedy Jr. and Bessette.
During the interview, Schlossberg asked Couric whether the show’s popularity among younger viewers could benefit his campaign. He concluded by affirming the Kennedy family’s commitment to public service and the importance of inspiring civic engagement.
