Fort Lauderdale firefighters responded to a house fire in the Melrose Manors neighborhood on Sunday evening. The blaze started in a carport on the 3000 block of Southwest Second Street at approximately 6:20 p.m. and quickly spread to an adjacent residence.
Emergency crews arrived within minutes and completed extinguishment in about 30 minutes, reporting extensive damage to the property. All occupants evacuated successfully. During the incident, firefighters rescued a dog, two rabbits, and a bearded dragon from the home.
The fire forced the displacement of five residents, including two children, who are currently seeking shelter with assistance from the American Red Cross. Local officials confirmed that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue has issued no further statements regarding the incident, but officials continue to monitor the situation and provide support to affected families.
