He cancels Marseille concert amid authorities’ anti‑drug inquiry
On Wednesday, rapper Ye announced that his scheduled concert at Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome on June 11 had been postponed. The decision follows French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez’s statement that authorities would examine all options to prevent the event.
Ye’s postponement comes after a ban from entering the United Kingdom, where he was set to headline the Wireless Festival in July. The UK ban followed criticism of his antisemitic comments and a history of praise for Adolf Hitler.
The artist issued a public apology in January, placing a full‑page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal. He attributed his remarks to a previously undiagnosed brain injury and mental‑health issues, noting a bipolar disorder episode that affected his behavior.
Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan had earlier declared that the city would not host Ye, citing concerns that the performer promotes hatred. The mayor stated that the Vélodrome is a symbol of community and inclusion.
French officials, including the interior ministry, are monitoring the situation while the concert remains indefinitely delayed. No further dates have been announced.
