Brickell Key hotel demolition to begin this week.
The Mandarin Oriental hotel on Miami’s Brickell Key is scheduled to be demolished by controlled implosion on Sunday morning, officials announced. The 66‑story building will collapse within about 20 seconds, clearing the site for a new luxury residential complex and a hospitality venue that will retain the Mandarin Oriental name.
Brickell Key entrance gates will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday to keep the area secure. Police and Miami Fire Rescue will monitor the site throughout the demolition, and a safety perimeter of at least 800 feet will be enforced to protect nearby structures and residents.
Officials advised local residents to secure pets, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid using air conditioning during the operation to minimize potential disruptions from dust. The implosion is expected to be dust‑heavy but is planned to minimize impact on surrounding buildings and the environment.
The demolition is part of a broader redevelopment plan for Brickell Key, which aims to replace the existing hotel with upscale housing and a new Mandarin Oriental hospitality brand. The project is expected to proceed after the collapse, with construction scheduled to focus on the new development.
