Residents sue city over Ultra extension in Miami
City commissioners in Miami are scheduled to meet on Thursday, 23 April 2026, to consider a proposed 20‑year operating agreement for the annual Ultra Music Festival held in downtown Miami. The meeting will decide whether to extend the city’s contract with the event organizers.
The Downtown Neighbors Alliance has urged the commission to postpone the vote. Alliance president James Torres has said residents want an opportunity to discuss concerns before a long‑term deal is approved. The group also notes that a single‑party agreement could limit the event’s responsiveness to local issues.
In addition, the Downtown Neighbors Alliance has filed a formal complaint with the city. The complaint concerns Ultra’s compliance with obligations under a prior settlement agreement that was in place before the current contract.
The city has not yet received a response from Ultra Music Festival regarding the complaint or the proposed extension. The commission’s agenda and related documents are available on the city’s website for public review.
The outcome of the Thursday vote will determine whether the festival continues under the current arrangement and how resident input is incorporated into the city’s decision‑making process.
