Rapper Mystikal sentenced to 20 years in Louisiana rape case – NBC 6 South Florida

Rap star Mystikal receives 20‑year sentence for Louisiana rape case.

Michael Lawrence Tyler, known professionally as Mystikal, received a 20‑year prison sentence on Monday for third‑degree rape. The conviction stems from an alleged assault that occurred at his Prairieville home in 2022. Tyler had pleaded guilty in March, reducing the charge from first‑degree rape, which would have carried a mandatory life sentence.

The sentencing hearing was held in Ascension Parish. Tyler’s defense attorney previously requested the withdrawal of the plea, citing insufficient time to consider the consequences. The hearing concluded with the court imposing the 20‑year maximum for third‑degree rape.

During the session the victim testified, stating that she had been punched, choked, and forcibly raped within the defendant’s residence. She urged the judge to impose the maximum penalty. The jury was not involved, as the plea deal set the sentencing range.

Tyler has remained in the Ascension Parish Jail without bond since his 2022 arrest. He is currently serving the sentence imposed by the judge.
