Luke Sells Lightsaber, Wizard of Oz Hat in Auction 9 words?
Heritage Auctions announced its Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction, scheduled for July 13‑17, featuring high‑value items from film, music, and pop culture. The centerpiece is a Luke Skywalker lightsaber with the severed hand prop used in “The Empire Strikes Back.” The weapon, dressed by Mark Hamill for the 1980 sequel, has not been auctioned before and will start at $1 million.
Other notable pieces include a hat worn by Margaret Hamilton in “The Wizard of Oz,” a Gene Wilder top hat from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” and Sylvester Stallone’s boxing boots from “Rocky III.” Bidding for these starts at $50 000 to $100 000 each. Two rugs from “The Big Lebowski,” integral to the plot, will open at $15 000.
The sale also lists John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics for “If I Fell,” dated 1964, beginning at $500 000, and a collection of memorabilia such as a Paul Newman hockey jersey, a Bride of Frankenstein necklace, and an inflatable “Otto the Autopilot.”
Executive vice president Joe Maddalena noted that the auction spans Hollywood’s Golden Age to contemporary blockbusters and influential music moments. All items remain available for purchase during the conference; bidders can view catalog details online.
