Prince Harry loses privacy lawsuit over Daily Mail article
A judge in London dismissed Prince Harry’s final lawsuit against the publisher of the Daily Mail on Tuesday. Justice Matthew Nicklin ruled that the Duke of Sussex was unable to demonstrate that the newspaper had breached his privacy rights. The decision was delivered remotely, with no in‑person hearing.
The judge noted that the evidence presented relied on broad inferences and that the information reported could have come from legitimate sources. Associated Newspapers Ltd. was found to have no evidence of unlawful conduct such as phone hacking or the use of private investigators.
The ruling effectively ends the legal action that Harry filed with six other plaintiffs, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley. The parties had sought substantial damages, and the costs of preparing the case and attending an 11‑week trial were estimated at around £40 million.
This case was the third and final lawsuit Harry has brought against tabloid publishers, following earlier claims that the press had engaged in illicit tactics to expose his private life.
The judgment coincided with Harry’s return to the United Kingdom, a trip that has drawn attention to his ongoing efforts to reconcile with his father, King Charles III.
