91‑year‑old dies after apartment blaze in Lauderhill.
A fire ignited in a third‑floor bedroom window at an apartment building on Northwest 19th Street in Lauderhill, Florida, on Thursday afternoon. Emergency crews responded promptly to the blaze, which began just after 1 p.m. The fire was confined to the resident’s unit, and no other injuries were reported in the building complex.
Adeline Morant, a 92‑year‑old resident, could not be located inside the unit when firefighters entered. She was later transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where her daughter confirmed that she had died. The rescue effort was made more difficult by the building’s size, narrow hallways, and heavy black smoke.
Local 19th‑Street residents were evacuated, and the surrounding community was cleared of smoke. Fire officials noted that the incident involved a single unit and did not spread beyond it. No cause for the fire has yet been determined.
