FPL Tackles Surge of AI‑Driven Scam Calls to Customers
Florida Power & Light (FPL) has warned customers that a new type of scam is circulating in South Florida. The scheme involves automated voice messages that mimic an official FPL compliance call. In the messages, callers claim that state efficiency standards have flagged a homeowner’s property and offer rebates of up to $3,000 and a free air conditioner if the customer cooperates.
The messages instruct recipients to reply or call a number to complete an “energy compliance review.” FPL has stated that the calls are unapproved and that the voice content is generated by artificial intelligence. The company urges anyone who receives such a call to decline the offer and to contact FPL directly to verify the legitimacy of any outreach.
FPL’s compliance department has reported an increase in these incidents. The utility has asked residents to remain cautious of unsolicited calls that request personal information or payments. The company will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
