Chanel releases fresh sandal design showcasing extended foot coverage
Chanel launched its 2027 cruise collection on Tuesday in Biarritz, France, showcasing a sandal design that covered only the heel and was held together by two straps. The piece was described by the brand as intentionally unfinished, featuring what the designers called a “barefoot heel cap.”
The sandal quickly attracted attention on social media, where users shared images and reacted with surprise and amusement. Some comments likened the design to an unfinished shoe, while others noted its unconventional appearance. The buzz did not challenge the brand’s event schedule; it remained a fashion show for invited guests and critics.
The collection was presented by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy, who said it paid homage to Chanel’s 1920s style and incorporated elements of sportswear, workwear, and nautical attire. Blazy noted that early in the design process he felt the concept was excessive, but inspiration from a historic seashore photo persuaded him to proceed.
Reviewers praised the show’s aesthetic, and the runway was attended by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and A$AP Rocky. The sandal has not yet been released for retail sale, so its price remains undisclosed.
