Jimmy Kimmel shares alternative Christmas message that jokes about fascism in Britain
On Christmas Day, Jimmy Kimmel delivered an alternative Christmas message on Channel 4, airing alongside the British monarch’s traditional holiday address. The segment follows Channel 4’s annual practice of commentary that diverges from the official speech.
Kimmel criticized President Donald Trump’s second term as increasingly authoritarian, labeling his conduct as monarch‑like and warning of rising fascist tendencies. He highlighted concerns about democratic erosion in the United States.
In September, Kimmel was suspended from ABC after remarks tied to the Charlie Kirk shooting. The suspension prompted debate over free speech; Trump praised the move and called for other late‑night hosts to be fired.
Kimmel returned to his nightly show less than a week later. Hollywood figures urged defense of constitutional rights, stressing tensions between politics and media.
He noted that U.S. democratic institutions were under threat, citing the press, science, medicine, and the judiciary. Kimmel thanked British viewers and urged the U.K. to preserve its alliance with the United States.
