Savannah Guthrie hosts NBC’s new Wordle series under Jimmy Fallon

Savannah Guthrie was announced as the host of a new “Wordle” game show on Monday, May 11, during a segment on the television program TODAY. The show is being produced by NBC and the New York Times, with Jimmy Fallon serving as an executive producer.

The project has been in development for about two and a half years. Production will begin in the summer of 2024, with a planned premiere date still pending. Guthrie, a frequent Wordle player, has been involved with the game’s community since its launch in 2021 and gained attention when she solved a large puzzle on a Times Square screen in March 2025.

Guthrie’s participation follows a brief hiatus from TODAY to care for her mother. She returned to the show on April 6 after NBC postponed filming that would have taken place in March. The network cited a supportive environment that allowed her to focus on family during that time.

Casting for contestants is currently open. Applications may be submitted through https://wordle.castingcrane.com by 5 p.m. PT on May 29. The series is expected to feature regular gameplay and contestant competition based on the popular online puzzle.
