Miami Beach dedicates new baseball field to Skip Bertman
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The Flamingo Park Baseball Field on Michigan Avenue was renamed Stanley Skip Bertman Field this week. The change honors the legendary LSU Tigers coach, who was born in the area and graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School in 1956.
Bertman began his coaching career at the same high school, leading the team to a state championship. He later guided the LSU Tigers to five national titles and holds the highest postseason winning percentage among college baseball coaches.
The renaming ceremony was attended by Walter Bertman’s hometown community. City Manager Eric Carpenter described the honor as a recognition of the coach’s legacy of excellence and influence on local athletes.
Bertman, who will turn 88 next month, expressed pride in the new name and gratitude for the enduring support of his community. The field’s official dedication is set for the coming season.
