Former Osmond family singer Alan Osmond passes away at 76

Alan Ralph Osmond, the oldest member of the singing family group The Osmonds, died on Monday at the age of 76. The death occurred in a private setting where he was surrounded by his wife, Suzanne, and their eight sons. Osmond had retired from performing in 1987 after a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

He was one of nine siblings in the family. His brothers Donny, 68, and Merrill, 72, issued public statements expressing gratitude for his leadership and noting that he had spent time with Merrill just days before his passing.

Osmond was born on June 22, 1949, in Ogden, Utah. He began his musical career in the 1950s with brothers Wayne, Merrill, and Jay in a barbershop quartet. The Osmonds gained national exposure on The Andy Williams Show and later expanded to a quintet when Donny joined in the early 1970s.

During the 1970s, Osmond served as a principal producer for ABC’s The Donny and Marie Show. He also helped launch the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, which has raised over $5 billion for children’s hospitals, and founded the One Heart Foundation to support orphans.

He is survived by his wife, eight sons, 30 grandchildren, five great‑grandchildren, and his remaining siblings. His brother Wayne died on January 1, 2025, at 73 after a stroke.
