Woman accused of attacking senior couple in Miami Beach

Woman confronts older couple during Miami Beach altercation.

A 26‑year‑old homeless woman was taken into custody by the Miami Beach Police Department on Monday, after reports that she allegedly attacked a senior couple. The incident took place at the 400‑block of Euclid Avenue near 1000 Fifth Street.

First responders arrived at about 1 p.m. to a call about a suspicious person in the area. Officers found the woman had left the scene but recovered a wallet with a Florida driver’s license in which her name was identified as Thalia Rodriguez.

During a subsequent canvass at 1000 Fifth Street, an officer saw a woman matching Rodriguez’s description engaged in a physical altercation with an elderly man. Police separated the parties and detained Rodriguez for investigation.

The victims said Rodriguez approached them while they were walking into a business, insulted the lady, and slapped her. The man intervened and a struggle followed. Both sustained minor injuries; the woman had a superficial lip cut and the man had scratches on his face. They were treated on scene and declined hospital transport.

Police are treating the case as two counts of battery against a person 65 years or older. Rodriguez remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $20,000 bond.
