Super Mario Galaxy Film Earns $629 M Worldwide, Announces New Release
In its second weekend, the Universal‑Illumination film “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” added $69 million across 4,284 U.S. and Canadian theaters, bringing the domestic total to $308.1 million and the worldwide gross to $629 million. The drop from the opening weekend was 48 percent, a moderate decline for a large franchise. The film’s production cost of $110 million makes its earnings a strong financial outcome.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” remains ahead of the 2023 sequel “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which had already surpassed $353 million domestically during its second weekend. The current film’s performance exceeds expectations, with estimates suggesting most tickets were sold at lower prices for younger audiences.
The weekend’s fourth‑place opener was Universal’s romantic comedy “You, Me & Tuscany,” which earned approximately $8 million from 3,151 screens. The film’s audience demographics were largely female, and it holds a 68 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A‑ grade from CinemaScore.
Other entries in the top five included Amazon MGM Studios’ “Project Hail Mary,” adding $24.6 million and reaching a domestic total of $256.7 million, and the A24 film “The Drama,” which earned $8.7 million, marking a 38 percent decline from its opening. Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers” captured $4.1 million in its sixth weekend, while the Japanese title “Exit 8” added $1.4 million from 490 theaters.
