NBC 6 confirms production of new Romy and Michele film
Twenty‑First Century Studios announced that the long‑anticipated follow‑up to the 1997 comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” has entered production. The studio posted a behind‑the‑scenes image of Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino on set and confirmed that the sequel will be released through streaming services Hulu and Disney+, rather than in theaters.
Key returning cast members include Kudrow, Sorvino, Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming, Camryn Manheim, and Julia Campbell. New actors slated to appear are Keegan‑Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham, though character details have not yet been released. Production is expected to begin soon, with a projected release window in 2027.
Kudrow had previously mentioned a sequel during a Bravo interview, noting that a “really funny script” was in development. The original film debuted on April 25, 1997, and has since gained a cult status. The sequel’s development has been verified by official studio statements and confirmed cast participation.
