Local police investigate incident highlighted by NBC 6 South Florida
Two military helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning, June 14, 2026. The aircraft impacted in the western zone of the city, where one rotorcraft fell into a car dealership parking lot, setting parked electric vehicles ablaze. Fire crews succeeded in extinguishing the flames after the crash.
All six occupants were killed, but bodies have not yet been identified. The Royal Military Fire Department stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the midair collision. Police confirmed that passenger lists were provided to aviation authorities, which included American entertainer Oliver Tree and Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Díaz, known online as Gaspi. Gaspi was 23 years old and had a YouTube following of more than 2.8 million subscribers.
A witness, Fernandes de Freitas, who works repairing tires, reported seeing one helicopter ignite shortly after the collision and observed a passenger escape from the other aircraft before it hit the ground. The incident is under investigation, and no further details have been released.
