Michael Returns to Number One in Saturday Box Office Race
Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” returned to the top spot in North America for the week ending Sunday, earning $26.1 million in ticket sales. The film, distributed by Lionsgate, is accumulating $703.9 million worldwide to date. It trails “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which has generated $910.8 million globally.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” finished second with $18 million, its third weekend in theaters. The Disney‑owned film has a domestic total of $175.9 million and a worldwide gross of $546.2 million.
New releases also appeared this weekend. “Obsession” led the debuting releases with approximately $16.1 million from 2,615 theaters, exceeding expectations. The film was directed by YouTube creator Curry Barker and received a 94 % score on Rotten Tomatoes. “Mortal Kombat II” ranked fourth, moving 65 % down to $13.4 million domestically and adding $101.2 million globally. Amazon MGM Studios placed three titles in the top ten, including “The Sheep Detectives,” “Project Hail Mary,” and “Is God Is.”
Upcoming releases are expected to alter the standings next week with the opening of “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters. The film’s arrival may shift the current rankings in the North American box office.
