Mariska Hargitay’s husband asks for her hand during stage show
Mariska Hargitay closed the run of the immersive Broadway show Every Brilliant Thing on July 5 at a New York theater. The one‑person narrative follows a narrator documenting everyday joys, and an audience member repeatedly plays the role of the narrator’s childhood friend and future spouse, Sam.
For the final performance, Hargitay’s husband, actor Peter Hermann, appeared onstage as Sam in a scripted moment that mimicked a marriage proposal. The scene elicited cheers from the audience as Hermann knelt, while Hargitay answered with a scripted acceptance.
After the show ended, Hargitay bowed to applause before giving Hermann a bouquet and saying a brief “I love you” to a standing ovation. The couple, married in 2004, are parents to three children.
Hargitay, 62, had taken over the role in May, succeeding Daniel Radcliffe; she will be succeeded by Tracee Ellis Ross on July 7 as the show continues through early August.
