Marathon man accused of phoning FBI with threat to kill deputy, assaulting sergeant

Man in Marathon Allegedly Threatened Deputy and Assaulted Sergeant

A 54‑year‑old man in Marathon, Florida, is charged after threatening and assaulting law‑enforcement officers. Earlier this week, David Patrick Williams called the FBI and warned of shooting a Monroe County deputy. The FBI forwarded the threat to the county sheriff’s office, and deputies returned to Williams’s residence on Fourth Avenue just before 9:45 p.m. Friday to speak with him. He reportedly refused to open the door, then re-entered the house, pulling away from the officers.

During the encounter, Williams seized a sheriff’s sergeant by the throat. No officer sustained serious injuries, and the deputy who responded was unharmed. Williams later admitted to making the call to the FBI.

He faces misdemeanor charges of battery on a law‑enforcement officer, resisting arrest and making threats to kill an officer. Exact jail status was not listed on the sheriff’s website, but court records indicate he will be arraigned in a Florida Keys courtroom on May 27.

The incident occurs amid ongoing community efforts to address public safety concerns in Marathon. Authorities have not released additional details.
