Man suffers burns after apartment fire in Oakland Park

Oakland Park resident sustains burn injuries during apartment blaze.

Oakland Park, Fla., firefighters reported a kitchen‑originating fire in a seven‑unit, one‑story building at 4451 NE 19 Terrace early Monday. The incident began shortly after 5:30 a.m., and responders arrived at the scene within minutes of reporting a smoke plume from an apartment window. An eyewitness described the smoke spread and the heating of the structure.

The fire left one resident with second‑degree burns and inhalation injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim, who has a history of a motorcycle crash, was assisted by neighbors who called 911 as soon as they saw smoke. A wheelchair and walker were found in the apartment, indicating the resident’s mobility status.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue confirmed the fire was contained after several minutes of emergency response. All seven units were inspected and cleared for safety, and no further injuries or property losses were reported. The incident was declared under control by the end of the morning, and investigators are evaluating the cause.
