Defendant who struck deputy and escaped in crash appears in court
A 40‑year‑old man was charged after a collision involving a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy on Friday night. The incident occurred on Broward Boulevard when a black vehicle reportedly ran a red light and struck the side of the deputy’s car before the driver fled the scene. An early Sunday court hearing in Broward County reviewed the case.
The defendant, Sean Alexis, has a driving record dating back to 2008, including multiple violations such as speeding, red‑light running, and a prior conviction for driving 95 mph in a 65‑mph zone. His license was suspended in August and remains suspended. He faces a pending charge for driving 55 mph in a 35‑mph zone and failing to obey a traffic control device, and earlier this month he was cited for driving with a suspended license in a school zone.
During the hearing, prosecutors highlighted Alexis’s history of violations. His defense attorney noted that he is a parent of two children, ages 10 and 4, is unemployed, and can afford only a $1,000 bond. He has also been ordered to wear an ankle monitor if released, cannot drive, and must surrender his passport.
The case remains pending. The judge has set bail conditions, and the defendant’s bond status will be determined in the next court proceeding.
