Fort Lauderdale experiences power outages after electrical blaze

A power outage began late Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard area, affecting multiple businesses on Southeast 12 Avenue. Florida Power & Light dispatched crews after a pole caught fire at approximately 8:45 a.m. Two hours later, the company’s status tracker listed 34 customers without electricity.

Several establishments were forced to cancel planned appointments for the day, including The Sarracino Salon, whose owner noted the impact on a busy Saturday schedule. Repairs progressed throughout the morning, and power was restored to some customers by 3 p.m. The utility company reported that work was still underway for remaining outages at that time.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the incident as part of routine emergency services for the weekday rush in the area. The fire suppression effort helped prevent further damage to the electrical infrastructure.

The outage was contained to the Las Olas Boulevard corridor; no injuries or major property damage were reported. Local officials confirmed that they remained monitoring the situation until full service was restored.
