Coral Springs family displaced after apartment fire destroys home

Coral Springs family forced to relocate following apartment blaze.

A fire ignited in a first‑floor apartment in Coral Springs, Florida, on June 3, 2026. The blaze was contained quickly after residents left the home, preventing injuries. The apartment belonged to 42‑year‑old Tavaras Calvin and his wife. Their four children, ages 9, 6, 5 and 3, were not present at the time of the fire. The structure suffered extensive interior damage, and a patio window was shattered by the heat.

Fire investigators cited the battery of a Power Wheels toy car owned by Calvin’s son as the probable ignition source. The battery is known to sometimes fail and cause fires, according to officials. The exact cause remains under formal investigation.

The family has since relocated to a nearby hotel to regroup after spending the previous week apart to focus on work. The American Red Cross, Broward County chapter, has offered financial support to the family. No injuries were reported, and all occupants remain safe. The investigation is ongoing.
