Chrisleys sue former attorney over alleged legal malpractice – NBC 6 South Florida

The Chrisleys Bring Lawsuit Against Former Lawyer After Dispute

Reality‑TV couple Todd and Julie Chrisley filed a lawsuit against former defense attorney Chris Anulewicz and the law firm Balch & Bingham. The suit alleges that the firm’s lack of experience with a high‑profile federal criminal case led to legal malpractice that contributed to the couple’s conviction and imprisonment.

The Chrisleys were indicted in August 2019 and found guilty in June 2022 on charges of bank fraud and tax evasion. Todd received a 12‑year sentence and Julie a seven‑year sentence. Both were released in May 2025 after receiving a presidential pardon.

The lawsuit claims that Anulewicz, who had limited defense experience, was chosen because the Chrisleys’ fame could generate lucrative business. During the case, Anulewicz allegedly steered the couple into a $75,000 investment in a food‑truck startup owned by his brother‑in‑law, while the firm failed to pursue evidence‑suppression motions that could have weakened the prosecution’s case.

The Chrisleys seek a jury trial and compensatory damages exceeding $25 million, plus legal costs and attorney fees. A Balch & Bingham attorney stated that the firm has not yet been served with the complaint and will defend vigorously.

The couple currently resides in Tennessee and plans to return to television with a new Lifetime series following their release.
