Performers Withdraw from National Celebration After Initial Inclusion

Freedom 250, a public‑private partnership announced on May 28, listed a lineup of performers for a “Great American State Fair” slated to run from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall. The event is part of celebrations marking the United States’ 250th anniversary.

Two listed artists, Morris Day and The Time and Young MC, confirmed via social‑media posts that they would not appear at the fair. They stated that the event has political aspects that they were not informed about and expressed a desire to perform in Washington, D.C., at a less politically charged occasion.

Freedom 250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner emphasized the organization’s nonpartisan mission to unite Americans around the anniversary. The spokesperson noted that the group focuses on events that honor history and involve all Americans.

Other performers announced for the first wave of the event include Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, Martina McBride, The Commodores, C+C Music Factory, and Bret Michaels. The fair’s schedule features state and territory showcases, a 110‑foot Ferris wheel, business‑led discussions, and screenings of the National Treasure films.

The White House has established a task force to coordinate larger anniversary activities, including an IndyCar street race around the Mall and an Ultimate Fighting Championship bout at the White House.
