Mexican Navy medical flight lost communication for several minutes before Texas crash

Mexican Navy medical plane disconnects during Texas crash, authorities investigate.

On Dec 22 2025, a Mexican Navy Beech King Air 350i carrying a young patient and seven other passengers crashed into Galveston Bay. Five people, including sailors, were killed; two survivors were rescued and a third remains missing.

The aircraft was part of a medical transport mission organized with the Michou and Mau Foundation to transfer burn patients to Shriners Children’s Texas. It was intended to land at Sholes International Airport but descended too low amid thick fog.

Radar data showed the plane was below 200 feet at a distance of two miles from the runway, while the airport’s navigation aid had been offline for about a week. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated the pilot may have taken an unsafe approach.

U.S. Coast Guard, Galveston police, and Navy personnel recovered two survivors; recovery of the wreckage may take a week or more, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Investigators will examine maintenance, weather, and air‑traffic control records, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
