Taylor Swift reimburses New York City for wedding security costs
Singer Taylor Swift has paid New York City for security and related expenses incurred during her wedding at Madison Square Garden from July 2 to July 4. City officials said the cost covered the permit and overtime for police officers assigned to the event.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani disclosed at a press conference on July 10 that Swift has already paid more than $160,000 for the permit and the city’s response to the wedding. These funds were reimbursed shortly before the ceremony.
The city filed a permit for a multi‑day, high‑profile event at the arena in the days before the wedding. An NYPD internal memo outlined security plans that includediend hundreds of officers on patrol during the event.
Republican Representative Nicole Malliotakis criticized the arrangement, stating that the police should not be burdened with the staffing costs of the wedding. She urged the city to cover the 130 officers required each day.
Mamdani noted that the summer hosted several major events in New York, including the Knicks’ championship, the World Cup, and the Madison Square Garden wedding.
