Rob Reiner earns posthumous Emmy nomination for “The Bear” – NBC 6 South Florida

Netflix series “The Bear” secures posthumous Emmy nod for Rob Reiner

Rob Reiner, a filmmaker and actor who passed away on December 14, 2025, was found stabbed to death in his Brentwood residence along with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer and producer. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first‑degree murder. He pleaded not guilty, remains in custody without bail, and is scheduled to appear before Los Angeles Superior Court on September 15.

In a tribute to the late actor, the Television Academy announced a posthumous nomination for Reiner for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. The award recognizes his role as business mentor Albert Schnurr in FX’s “The Bear,” in which he appeared in three episodes during the show’s fourth season. The nomination places him alongside contemporaries such as Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for “Shrinking” and other nominees from “Widow’s Bay,” “Hacks,” and “Saturday Night Live.”

Reiner’s career included eight Emmy nominations and three potential wins, the first two posibles resulting from his performance in “All in the Family.” He also earned an Oscar nomination for the film “A Few Good Men” and directed celebrated movies including “When Harry Met Sally…” and “This Is Spinal Tap.” Shortly before his death, he portrayed George Washington in an episode of HBO’s “Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.”

The 2026 Emmy Awards, slated for September 14, will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay and broadcast live on NBC and Peacock. Reiner’s posthumous nomination marks the first award recognition he has received since his death and adds to a career that spanned more than five decades in television and film.
