Oliver Tree Receives Heartfelt Tributes From Fans and Colleagues
A mid‑air collision between two helicopters occurred just before 9 a.m. local time on Sunday near Rio de Janeiro’s western zone. Both aircraft crashed onto a car‑dealership parking lot, igniting a fire that involved 15 vehicles. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze. Six fatalities were reported, including American singer and comedian Oliver Tree Nickell, 24, who was a passenger on one of the helicopters. His death was confirmed by the Brazilian aviation authorities, who have not yet identified the other victims. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
Tree was on a world‑tour when he was aboard the aircraft that crashed. His next scheduled performance was set for July 1 in Lisbon, Portugal, after a show in São Paulo on June 6.
