AR-15 seized, man in custody after he chased ex, crashed after Turnpike pursuit: FHP

Man arrested after AR‑15 confiscated during pursuit ending in crash.

In Miami‑Dade County a 24‑year‑old man was arrested Monday after a confrontation with his former girlfriend. The incident began at the Florida Highway Patrol’s Snapper Creek Turnpike station when the woman reported that the suspect, identified as Reshawd Pond Jr. of Opa‑locka, had threatened to kill her. The woman drove to the agency’s station before the man fled.

Pond was pursued by Florida Highway Patrol troopers and eventually abandoned his vehicle near Southwest Eighth Street close to 127th Avenue. Troopers apprehended two other occupants of the vehicle and later arrested Pond himself. During the arrest, an AR‑15 rifle was seized from his car.

Pond was taken into custody by state troopers and is currently held at the agency’s facilities. No additional charges were announced at the time of the report.
