Construction Worker Fatally Hurt, Second Severely Injured During Downtown Miami Roof Accident
A construction accident in Downtown Miami resulted in one fatality and a serious injury on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at a site near the intersection of Northeast Sixth Street and North Miami Avenue, involving workers on the building’s top floor.
Authorities reported that a structural column unexpectedly collapsed, entrapping a male and a female worker beneath it. Quick response from Miami Fire Rescue teams transported both individuals to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The female worker, identified as Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Garcia, 25, was declared deceased shortly after arrival at the hospital. The male worker remains hospitalized and is expected to undergo an extended recovery period.
No further injuries or structural damage reports have been released. The situation remains under investigation by local safety officials.
