John Travolta, 72, received an honorary Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on Friday, May 15, 2026, in France. The award was presented shortly before the screening of his feature film “Propeller One‑Way Night Coach.”

Travolta walked the red carpet with his 26‑year‑old daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, wearing a cream‑colored wool beret, spectacles, a black suit over a knit vest, and patent‑leather loafers. His appearance was noted by festival organizers and media present at the Palais des Festivals.

Festival artistic director Thierry Frémaux announced the surprise honor during the event’s opening ceremony. Travolta was visibly moved as the trophy was handed to him, and he later remarked on the significance of the moment.

“Propeller One‑Way Night Coach” is Travolta’s debut as writer, director and co‑producer, adapted from his 1997 children’s novel. The film’s premiere coincided with the award ceremony.

Historically, Cannes has presented honorary Palmes to celebrity figures, including Tom Cruise in 2022, Peter Jackson in 2024, and Barbra Streisand, who is scheduled to be honored later in the festival. The current award confirms Travolta’s ongoing recognition by the film community.
