Box Office War: Two Star Films Command Weekend Leads
Netflix’s “The Devil Wears Prada 2” earned approximately $43 million in North American theaters during its second weekend, slightly surpassing Warner Bros.’ “Mortal Kombat II,” which posted $40 million in its opening week. The sequel’s earnings pushed Disney’s total worldwide revenue past $2 billion for the year, while accumulating $433.2 million globally in the first 12 days of release.
“Mortal Kombat II” opened in 3,503 screens and drew a predominantly male audience, with 75 % of ticket buyers identified as men. In contrast, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” attracted a more balanced gender split during its opening weekend.
Other releases that weekend included Amazon MGM’s “The Sheep Detectives,” which grossed $15.9 million, and Paramount’s Billie Eilish concert film, earning $7.5 million in the United States. The biopic “Michael” remained in third place with $36.5 million, while “Project Hail Mary” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” continued to perform moderately.
Comscore released a provisional top‑10 domestic box‑office list for the period, ranking “The Devil Wears Prada 2” first through “Animal Farm” tenth. Friday‑Sunday estimates are pending final confirmation next week.
